How to use the Furniture you have

In order to give your home a new look, it is possible to be more creative with the furniture you already own, rather than splurging on new pieces. This not only allows you to get the most out of what you already own, but to use your creativity and see things in a different way. Just like in the movie "Dead Poets Society" when Mr Keating invites the students to stand on his desk to get a new perspective and see life in a diferent way.
When you create the interiors for the life you want it allows space for these things to happen.

For example, in a sun room or spare room, instead of a using couch you can use a day bed. Instead of angling furniture towards the TV angle it towards the windows and put the TV cabinet on castors to be rolled in and out as needed. Take advantage of any views you may have or it may be that the sun hits a part of the room in winter.
Some other ideas are:
  • Using a chunk of wood as a side table
  • Using a bookshelf as a console to go next to a dining table or behind a couch.
  • Using a coffee table as a low dining table with cushions for chairs
  • A screen for a headboard
  • Outdoor furniture inside

For the space to be more flexible it requires there to be a lot less in it. The way I like my interiors is to have no clutter. It is a life changing experience and not for the faint hearted. You must be prepared to LET GO of many possessions. Only keeping the ones that are current in your life now.
