I am two weeks into my Bikram Yoga classes and I am documenting the changes I am feeling. I have signed up for the 6 month pass. This gives me unlimited access to the yoga classes during this 6 month period, similar to a gym membership.
So how do I feel? Well, I have become very aware about where I am holding tension in my body. We are all holding incedible amount of tension in our bodies and most of us do not even realise it. Sure we know when we have a sore neck or tight shoulders or lower back pain, but even if you do not experience this on a regular basis, there is still tension being held. A 10 day Vipassana course will make you very aware of the unconscious pain held in your body.
Yoga is the marriage of mind and body. The poses link your mind to each and every part of your body so you can feel and experience what is actually going on there. Each yoga class and pose you do allows you to go into this pain or tension and work on releasing it and subseqently becoming more flexible.
My body feels more toned and I have trimmed down quite a bit. One Bikram Yoga class burns approximatley 500 calories. I have also noticed my appetite has dropped, I eat when I am hungry and that's it. Some of the poses help to work into your colon giving you a colonic type experience between classes. This alone contributes to a geater sense of wellbeing.
Now that is how I am feeling physically, but what about energeically? It sort of feeling like I am riding a wave. If you have ever caught a wave, either surfing, body surfing or on a boogie board you will know this feeling. Its like you are floating, being carried by a forse much greater than you and it is completely effortless.
Whilst I am only 2 week into it, I have to say there is a general sense of feeling good all over. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best anyone could ever feel) I am about a 6/7. Although it is hard to say as who knows how good a person can possibly feel?
I am more aware of my emotional states, and there is a space between feeling the feeling and going into the reaction. In that space I can make a choice to react or not. Most times I don't want to waste my energy reacting so take a deep breath and move on. This is not happening everytime mind you. I still have a long way to go.
I also feel there is a clarity in my energy. It is almost like the sweat cleans my pours but also cleans my etheric (life force energy or chi). Having a cleaner etheric makes me want to have a clean home environment and put clean foods into my body. As my home is an extention of me energetically this makes perfect sense. Also the fact that you are what you eat.
These are the benefits I am feeling so far in my Bikram Yoga journey. I will keep sharing as I go along.
